Joe & Sue O’Lear
I was born into a very dysfunctional home. I was drunk for commencement, a defiant atheist, an evolutionist and a weekend alcoholic. I liked to talk to Christians because they were easy to confuse. It was a game for me. Then I met some Christians who shared with me the massive, compelling, irrefutable evidence of the gospel. The Holy Spirit changed my heart. I became a Christian. God radically changed my life. By God’s grace, this guy who was labeled “too dumb to go to college” has graduated 7 times with about 26 years of formal education involving eleven different schools. Soli Deo Gloria.
Sue and I met at Miracle Strip Amusement Park in Panama City, FL. That is where we live. Sue is a graduate of Grove City College in PA in education. She taught in Christian schools, elementary school, for a decade before working for the state of Florida as a benefits specialist. Without her I do not know where I would be. She is the ideal helpmate, a true Proverbs 31 woman.
I did two tours in the Army (SGT), about 20 years in criminal justice, about 2 as a correctional officer and just shy of 20 as a state probation officer. I have been privileged to serve as a teacher from college adjunct to first grade. All of this time my heart and time has been in outreach and apologetics.
I am now involved in several outreach and discipleship efforts in America and was looking for more opportunities. My Pastor suggested ELI. I am committed to teach pastors and church leaders overseas. This is that for which God has prepared me. I thank God for this opportunity. This dysfunctional atheist and weekend alcoholic can only praise God for a life in Him. I summarize that life as rollercoaster, front seat, eyes open, hands up, full scream.
