Mike and Tina Van Arsdale

Mike grew up in a Christian home hearing the stories of the Bible and experiencing Church life from an early age. As a pastor’s son, he saw the ups and downs of Christian ministry first-hand. This close connection to pastoral ministry has fueled a lifelong love for pastors. In his early 20s, Mike experienced a renewal of his faith in Christ, which the Holy Spirit has faithfully sustained and increased.

Mike met his wife, Tina, while in high school in Ohio. They began dating several years after graduation and married in 1994. Shortly after completing his Masters in Music Education, Mike and Tina moved to Virginia to begin a career as a saxophonist with the U.S. Air Force bands.

While stationed in Virginia, Mike was ordained as a Ruling Elder in the PCA. Mike and Tina have been involved in several church plants throughout their marriage. Their desire is to see the Kingdom grow in visible ways that encourage the Body of Christ to hold fast to the teaching of Scripture, keep their eyes fixed on Christ, and maintain an eternal perspective on life in this world.

Mike retired from the Air Force Academy Band in 2018 and once again began to sense the call to care for and equip pastors for ministry. ELI’s focus on equipping indigenous church leaders for faithful ministry fulfills a lifelong sense of calling for Mike.

Mike and Tina, live in Colorado Springs, CO. They have 3 children Jordan (23), Elise (20), Samantha (17) and 2 grandchildren. He enjoys mountain biking, golf, riding his motorcycle, being with his wife, and playing with his grandchildren.

Rev. Eric and Elaine Olson

Our Story

The son of a Baptist pastor, Eric grew up in a Christian home in the rural Midwest, living in North Dakota, Nebraska and Indiana. As a preacher’s kid, he was privileged to grow up reading books on the floor of his dad’s Pastor’s Study, hosting missionaries in the parsonage, visiting nursing homes and serving neighbors in need. After walking away from Christ for several years in late high school and early college, God used a godly young co-ed from Indiana University, named Elaine, to woo him back to Christ in 1988. A year later, in 1989, Eric and Elaine were married, and together they have sought to follow Jesus’ command in Matthew 25 to love the least of these, be they the homeless or the unborn.

After spending 4 years working in the pro-life ministry with Operation Rescue, God’s call for Eric to pursue seminary, came while he was still in a jail cell in West Palm Beach, FL. Accepted by Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, he graduated 3½ years later and was ordained in the Central Florida Presbytery of the PCA. For over 20 years, Eric has served the congregation of Grace Central Church (PCA), in Omaha, Nebraska, before resigning in August of 2020. Among many highlights during his tenure as pastor have been leading summer missionary trips to a variety of places: Belize, Central America; Romania; Mexico; and India. When in India, Eric had the opportunity to teach an Old Testament course to 30 national pastors in Chennai. This was an experience he would never forget. Soon after being called out of local church ministry, God has once again opened the door to teach national pastors in India with Equipping Leaders International (ELI).

Eric and Elaine continue to reside in Omaha, Nebraska. They enjoy dancing, board games, reading, running marathons, Calvin and Hobbes and family vacations. They are the proud parents of 8 children, who reside in Omaha, Bellevue, Boston and Denver. They also boast of 6 wonderful grandchildren!

My Role

While God has blessed me with a seminary education, 95% of the pastors in the Global South have no formal, theological education. A consequence of this lack of training is that it makes the congregations these pastors serve more vulnerable to threats of legalism, prosperity gospel and syncretism (a hybrid blending of many religions). As a faculty instructor with ELI, Eric will be able to bring seminary to hundreds of pastors who have not had the benefit of attending seminary. 3 or 4 times a year Eric will travel to India to teach seminary courses, recruiting another pastor, elder or teacher to travel and teach with him. Eric and Elaine have heard God’s clear call to serve Him through this teaching ministry, and we are now seeking to assemble a team of supporters who will help bring this call to fruition.

Dr. Daniel Carl Ferritto II

Daniel was raised in upstate New York near Albany. He put his faith in Christ at the age of five when he attended a gathering with his parents. After completing his undergraduate studies, Daniel received the call from God to begin to serve others through formal ministry. He has continued his education with graduate studies, taught in seminary, and served in multiple non-profit organizations. Daniel has served five churches.

Daniel joined the staff of ELI in December of 2020. He focuses on training, equipping, and raising up leaders within their own contexts. He strongly believes in the vision of training national leaders who will replicate and train others. In this manner, the communities and organizations in which these leaders labor will be strengthened and refined.

Daniel’s personal interests include gardening, cooking, playing guitar, reading, writing, playing bocce, genealogical research, and spending time with friends and family.

Rev. Manuel and Kimberly Padilla-Morales

Although born into a Puerto Rican family, Manuel grew up as a “military kid” living in various countries. He came to faith in Christ in the first year of college through a campus ministry. Kim was born in the Boston area where she grew up and came to trust Jesus in her early years.

They met while preparing to serve as short-term missionaries to South Africa. Their shared faith and vision for the global church motivated them to further prepare for missions. Shortly thereafter, they married (September 1985) and attended Reformed Theological Seminary where Manuel earned his M.Div. in Missions and Kim commenced her teaching profession.

After being ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America, they served for 13 years as church planting missionaries in Spain where they had the privilege to evangelize, equip leaders and plant a church.

In 2005 they transitioned to church planting in El Paso, TX, on the US/Mexico border. By God’s grace Las Tierras Community Church (LTCC) was established with a DNA to serve the border community of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, MX.

Having enjoyed the privilege of serving as LTCC’s first pastor, Manuel and Kim now have a call to once again serve the global church, particularly the Latin American church.

Through ELI, they look forward to leveraging their nearly 30 years of cross-cultural ministry to teach and disciple Latino pastors in the grace and truth of the gospel of Jesus.

Manuel and Kim, along with their dog Skye, reside in El Paso, TX where Kim is a dedicated middle school teacher. She loves reading, baking and crocheting. Manuel enjoys cycling, long hikes in the mountains as well as gardening.

They have three adult children who are all married, and two wonderful grandchildren.
